History of the School

“What is education for? For knowledge.

And what is knowledge for?

To enable man to live humanely, so that he lives to serve his fellowmen, in honor and without causing hardship to others” said Thanthai Periyar, an ardent fighter of social equality who dedicated his entire life to liberate the conventional society from the fetters of superstitious beliefs and class discriminations.

He insisted that, only life-oriented education could enlighten the dark society and it is the effective tool for the emancipation of women.

In order to strengthen the vision of Thanthai Periyar, several educational institutions were established by Dr. K. Veeramani, the diligent leader, the great idealist and the torchbearer of Thanthai Periyar.

Periyar Centenary Memorial Matriculation Higher Secondary School was established during 1978 as a Kindergarten school for both boys and girls in Tiruchirappalli at Periyar Nagar. Ever since its inception it has been striving hard to make the pupils intellectually competent, physically fit, emotionally stable and socially desirable.

The school has a strong basis of teaching values along with systematic teaching and encouragement by committed and enthusiastic teachers.
